SAINT NICHOLAS’ DAY
Saint Mikula, as called by islanders, is a patron saint of sailors, marines, travelers and children and at the same time of the Town of Komiža. Every year on December the 6th in front of the parish church on Muster an old boat(Gajeta) is being burnt at the stake as a sacrifice for the salvation of all boats that are still alive and sail in the world. This ceremony is followed by the prayers of many believers, islanders and many from all over Croatia who have come to celebrate and take a blessing from their patron saint.
